Are you interested in helping to welcome refugees and other immigrants to our country by becoming an ESL tutor? MBMM would like to help you prepare to do this important work. We will hold a one-day workshop, which will provide you with all of the basic information and resources you will need to begin teaching English-language learners.
Shari Freidman, one of MBMM's ESL program consultants, has designed a basic curriculum and guidelines for the workshop, which will provide you with basic tools needed to become an ESL tutor.
Shari has been teaching and tutoring since 1980. She taught ESL at Monmouth University in New Jersey from 1990 until 2002, when she moved to Boston. After arriving here, she taught an English conversation class at the Connolly Library in Jamaica Plain, tutored Hispanic women at Casa Nueva Vida in JP, and worked with Burmese refugees in Lynn. Currently, she tutors adults from Argentina, Costa Rica, Burma and China.
